Community celebrates new UCI Health – Irvine

Hundreds of Orange County residents and UCI Health co-workers came together on a wet, rainy Saturday to celebrate the upcoming opening of UCI Health – Irvine, the academic health system’s sixth hospital. When it opens in December, the 144-bed facility will be the nation’s first all-electric acute care hospital.

UC Irvine is launching the inaugural UCI Human Performance Symposium, hosted by UCI Athletics and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, on Jan. 9. The event will bring together leaders in professional, Olympic and NCAA sports to share the most impactful ways to elevate human performance. NFL Super Bowl winner Stephen Hauschka will deliver the keynote address. All students, staff and faculty are invited. Registration is required.

UC Presidential Medal awarded to Joan and Sanford I. Weill

UC President James B. Milliken has awarded the UC Presidential Medal to Joan and Sanford I. Weill in recognition of their years of extraordinary service and transformative support of the university across the arts and sciences. “They embody and inspire the ethos of public service that makes the University of California what it is. There are no two people more deserving of the University of California’s deepest appreciation than Sandy and Joan Weill,” Milliken said.

ANTrepreneur Center receives OCPA award

The ANTrepreneur Center has been honored with the 2025 Orange County Power Authority’s Community Impact Award for nonprofit leadership. The center was specifically lauded for the Sustainable and Just Future Repair Center and its support of sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship. “OCPA aims to recognize community members who are aligned with our mission and are championing the clean energy transition through their actions,” said Jacquie Henderson, OCPA director of communications and external affairs.
