Professors awarded Guggenheim Fellowships |

Coleman Collins, assistant professor of art (right), and Simon Huttegger, Chancellor’s Professor of logic and philosophy of science, have been awarded 2025 Guggenheim Fellowships. As part of the 100th class of fellows, they are among 198 American and Canadian scientists, scholars and artists receiving this year’s prestigious grants, demonstrating exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. |

Burn program accreditation |
|
The UCI Health Regional Burn Center at the UCI Medical Center in Orange has been recertified as an Adult and Pediatric Burn Center by the American Burn Association. The program is the only one in the county and one of just eight in California to have earned the three-year designation for achieving the highest possible standards of treatment for patients who have survived burns, from injury to rehabilitation. |

David S. Meyer named Carnegie Fellow |

David S. Meyer has been selected for the 2025 class of Andrew Carnegie Fellows. The professor of sociology joins an exclusive cohort of 26 distinguished individuals nationwide chosen from over 300 nominees. Each will receive $200,000 for research aimed at understanding and addressing political polarization in the United States – the most generous stipend of its kind. |

VOICE Initiative applications open |

The UC National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement has opened applications for the 2025-2026 Valuing Open and Inclusive Conversation and Engagement (VOICE) Initiative. VOICE provides funding for UC students, staff and faculty who are interested in conducting research or coordinating programs that further the center’s mission of exploring the intersection of expression, engagement and democratic learning. If you would like to learn more, join a VOICE information session Tuesday, May 6 at 1 p.m. or Wednesday, May 21 at 3 p.m. to meet former recipients and hear about their projects. Applications are due Monday, June 2 by 11:59 p.m. |

Distinguished Professor receives double honors |

Elizabeth F. Loftus, Distinguished Professor of social ecology and law, has been named a Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS for her contributions to the field of psychology, particularly cognitive psychology. Additionally, a study she co-authored, which highlights the potential risks and opportunities associated with AI-altered media, has won a 2025 Best Paper Award from Computer Human Interaction. The recognition celebrates Loftus' individual achievements and highlights the world-class research conducted at UC Irvine. |
