The winter 2025 edition of UC Irvine Magazine explores how the university’s efforts in health, education and research are shaping a better future. Highlights include the newly established Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health, the 20th anniversary of the PRIME-LC program and the commencement of 23 incarcerated men who earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology through UC Irvine LIFTED. Alcohol Awareness Month program |
|
In collaboration with the California Office of Traffic Safety, the Brain, Body and Behavior Driving Simulation Lab is working to address alcohol-impaired driving to reduce and ultimately eliminate alcohol-involved crash deaths on public roadways. The UC Traffic Safety Collaborative Program employs a multilevel approach to raise awareness about the potential dangers of alcohol use and misuse among young drivers, and it includes focus groups with teenagers and their parents to equip both groups with current evidence-based resources and behavioral tools for prevention. |

A central strategy is empowering affected populations through collaborative research, ensuring that scientific findings translate directly into tangible improvements in community well-being. |

Law students provide pro bono legal services |

Students in the School of Law spent part of their spring break serving communities in need through the Alternative Spring Break program. This year, 24 of them traveled to Northern California, Mississippi and Montana in early March to provide pro bono legal services at a variety of organizations, accompanied by UC Irvine Law staff. |
