Study predicts American Indian/Alaska Native dementia risk

Louhua Jiang professor of epidemiology and biostatistics

Machine learning algorithms utilizing electronic health records can effectively predict two-year dementia risk among American Indian/Alaska Native adults aged 65 years and older, according to a study led by Luohua Jiang, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics. Up until now, no other study has used machine learning models to help predict dementia risk among the historically understudied population.

On display in Langson Library through September, “Anteater Experience: 60th Anniversary of UC Irvine” traces six decades of campus history, spotlighting key developments that have shaped the university from its opening in 1965 to today. The exhibit focuses on three main pillars of progress: landscape, sustainability and student life.
