UCI real estate expert examines market trends

Ed Coulson, a professor of economics at the Paul Merage School of Business and director of UCI’s Center for Real Estate,
In October, U.S. mortgage rates reached their highest level in over two decades. Combined with a low inventory of homes for sale, last year proved to be a challenging market for homebuyers. Will home prices continue to rise in 2024? What will happen with mortgage rates? How are renters affected? UC president’s statement on state budget

UC President Michael V. Drake issued a statement Wednesday praising Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2024-25 budget for its “recognition of the University of California’s ongoing role in creating public good through research, public service and education.” Drake added, “Despite a growing deficit and continued fiscal uncertainty, the governor is making thoughtful decisions during an extraordinarily difficult budget period by implementing but deferring a 5% funding increase pledged in the multiyear funding compact for the University. … We look forward to working with the state Legislature and Gov. Newsom in the months ahead to finalize a budget that sustains the University’s research, public service and education mission.”

Drake reflects on Martin Luther King Jr.

Drake issued another statement today in anticipation of Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. “Dr. King’s life and contributions, the courageous way he lived provides inspiration and hope in the struggles we face today,” said Drake. “Climate change, war, political divisiveness, injustice and attacks on democracy – there is no shortage of worries to keep us up at night. In the face of these serious threats, it is important to remember why we do what we do at the University of California.”
