Happy holidays, Anteaters

Chancellor's greetings - Happy holidays, Anteaters
Chancellor Gillman wishes you and your loved ones a healthy, joyous and peaceful 2024.

How parents can encourage giving in kids

Gustavo Carlo is a professor of education and developmental psychologist at UCI who studies positive social development and health in culturally diverse children and adolescents. This holiday season, Carlo suggests several ways parents can foster healthy giving, starting with being a positive role model through frequent giving and charitable acts in front of their children. “Second, provide ample opportunities for children to practice giving, not just to family members, but to persons who come from different backgrounds,” he says. Third, acknowledge and reinforce giving behaviors  “with affection, warmth and praise, so [children] develop a moral identity as someone who is good.”

See you in 2024 with a revamped UCI Digest
