UCI surgeon urges better treatment of nerve injuries

Dr. Ranjan Gupta
The need for timely and accurate diagnosis of nerve injury, especially after trauma, is leading to a wave of new research in the medical field. Dr. Ranjan Gupta, chief of shoulder surgery at UCI Health, specializes in shoulder, elbow, hand and nerve injuries. He recently spoke to Healio News about the impact such injuries have on patients' lives.

Free Metrolink rides for students

Beginning Monday, Metrolink trains will offer a new pilot program allowing all students with a valid campus ID card to ride any train for free. The program will run for approximately six months and may be accessed through the Metrolink Mobile App. Students who create an account with their UCI email address will receive a Student Adventure Pass. While riding Metrolink, students will simply need to activate the Student Adventure Pass each time they use it and ensure they carry their UCI ID with them at all times. More information is available on Metrolink’s website.

UCI team aims to market satellite technology

A team from the Samueli School of Engineering is participating in the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps training program, which helps scientists and engineers commercialize inventions. Members of the school’s mechanical and aerospace engineering department have devised a satellite propulsion system that shows promise for revolutionizing the science of space exploration.
