Now a student in UCI’s master of data science professional program, Stephanie Saldana earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Ohio State University in 2022. The Mexican-American scholar also just completed a summer internship at Cox Communications and took on the role of graduate co-chair for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at UCI. She is now a data science professional program ambassador for the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. “My goal is to be a shining voice for my community as a first-generation Mexican-American and inspire the younger generation to find their place in STEM,” says Saldana, who spoke about her own struggles in STEM, connecting with a supportive community and encouraging others along the way.
