UCI’s artistic research labs

Actors simulating cattle, wheels and riders. An exploration of hip-hop dance’s connection to religion. Improv workshops for doctors and business executives. These and other projects are part of an effort to turn UCI’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts into a living, breathing lab of leading-edge work at a university whose reputation for research is traditionally dominated by the hard sciences. “Arts-based research is one of UCI’s most unheralded forms of excellence,” says Jesse Colin Jackson, the school’s inaugural associate dean of research and innovation.

The pandemic’s heavy toll on senior citizens

The coronavirus had major negative effects on older adults, and not just in lives claimed. Dr. Lisa Gibbs, chief of geriatric medicine and gerontology and the Ronald Reagan Endowed Chair of Geriatrics at UCI’s School of Medicine, discusses ageism and the mental and physical toll of the COVID-19 era.

UC NEWS AND GENERAL NEWS

As of today, there are still quite a few technologies that rely on floppies: Boeing 747 jets, part of San Francisco’s public transit system and — on a slightly less concerning note — the animatronic creatures at Chuck E. Cheese restaurants.
